Help needed.
Bit of a silly one, but for me this was a sad moment personally.
We came to the area in about 83-84 and I lived with my nan Cartington Court on the old Percy street crossing ( anyone got pics? ). Anyway, my playground was the horseshoe and harbour area. I visited Amble a couple of weeks ago and felt a part of me had died, yes folks, the washeteria by the harbour. I personally used to go here to dry the washing for me and my nan and I have looked at the very old maps on here of Amble and I am pretty sure Queen Bebba used to pop down on a Saturday to wash the castle bedding and it was well used by the folks from the steamboat pub! Okay, all joking aside though, how long was the washeteria there, why did it close, when did it open and what was there before. P.s, littles newsagents, what happened. I hope all concerned with both shops are enjoying a happy retirement. |

Little's changed ownership only a few years ago when the last owner (son of the people who ran it in the 80's) decided to sell up and pursue something different.
Don't know what happened to the Washeteria. I actually thought it was still there....shows you how much notice I pay! |

Just saw this extract from the Ambler on another site. How coincidental.
