Default charles matthew harbottle. from amble to living in australia.

hi there,

while searching for the harbottle family i was trying to go futher then
just the 1911 census. what happened the young men, most joined up.
so i found in the army records. but where did they go after the war?

charles matthew born 1893, son of thomas and elizabeth harbottle
20 middleton st, amble. was aged 18, working in the mine`s in 1911.
his younger brother william henry was killed in the war 1915.

thanks to the internet i came across charles and his family in london.
charles, his wife margaret elizabeth nee armstrong c1895. their five
children aged from 9 to the baby age 1. set sail 2 sep 1926, on the
ship " borda " arrival in melbourne 12 oct 1926. the great strike of 1926
made him leave for a better live, iam sure.

i was able to put together with the help from another forum, how they
lived and worked . charles died in australia in 1971, age 78. margaret
died in 1974 age 79. their c/o address in england was mr`s armstrong
14 blackwood st, amble. northumberland.

was glad to find out somthing about the lost family we all have.

thanks for your time. william

William, you might be interested in a post I did earlier this year under general topics "Geordieland NSW". This relates to family who emigrated to Australia before the First War but it shows the strength of character of familes willing to go to the other side of the world for a better life.

Default charles m harbottle

hi janwhin,

yes i saw that thread, it was very good reading, we moved over
to england due to the troubles. thought aus was a bit to far for
us, plus the cost.

it did take a lot for family`s charles to move, not much work
back home for miner`s in 1926.

regards, william.
