Default Two hospitals complete at amble

This would be the woman you remember? Here organising the Amble Hospitals straight after the outbreak of the Great War [Alnwick Gazette Aug. 1914]

AMBLE HOSPITAL

Many offers of articles for use in connection with the establishment of a hospital at the Medd School, which have been taken over for the purpose, were made at a large meeting of residents at Amble, under the presidency of Mrs Cresswell, commandant of Amble branch of the Red Cross Society.

TWO HOSPITALS COMPLETE AT AMBLE.

A largely attended meeting principally of women belonging to Amble and district, was held in the Central Hall, Amble on Sunday night last, The chair was occupied by Commandant Mrs Cresswell, of Hauxley Hall, who expressed her pleasure at seeing such a hearty response by the women of Amble. She was sure she would get all that was required to fit up the hospitals.
Papers were handed round to be filled up with lists of articles and there was a generous response. Mrs Cresswell thanked the women for their kindness.
On the following day the staff of the Amble Detachment received and checked the goods. The Boy Scouts had a busy day collecting.
The Medd Schools are filled up equipped as a hospital. Mrs Fairlamb of the Station Hotel, very generously placed at the disposal of Mrs Cresswell the Station Hotel assembly room for a storeroom, which was accepted. The hospital on the links has been overhauled by the Red Cross Society, and fitted up. Both places are now in readiness for any emergency.

We've mentioned the Links Hospital in other threads, and it appears on WW2 aerial photos of that area we have on here.

I don't think we had any Military Hospitals in Amble in WW1 but Alnwick did; some of the Amble men returned wounded ended up in the Alnwick Military Hospital.
