Default Water and Gas Inter-tidal Zone Druridge Bay

I assume everyone has now seen the world famous bubbling sands at Druridge.
Apparently swallowed a horse, a 4x4 and numerous dogs.

Shot this video today. Theory is it's mine water. Another one is starting 20m from this one. New one shown at the end of the video.

Told the wife to have a drink to see if it was fresh water. She refused.

I did have to edit out our dumb conversation and just put the sound of the sea in there.

The above video is the Hadston Carrs area if you have not worked it out. Did not bother to look for the others but the map says there are more.

Anything to do with the Hauxley pump ceasing to operate?

Could be. Of course it might not be mining related at all. The guy on the beach with the worm vacuum in the video thinks it's mine water (unprompted by me) - if that counts for anything!

The water out of Hauxley pumping station was crystal clear if I recall but when it came into contact with sandstone the rock went dark rust brown.
Anyway I think the coal authority are looking into it. Might have to restart Hauxley pumps if the water is theirs!

There would have to have been some sort subsidence as well to create a pathway to the surface. I'll have a look at Alan's maps and see what workings are under there and at what depth.

Funny when it started there was lots of gas bubbling too. Now mainly just water. You might speculate some gas filled cavity has flooded venting gas then water to the surface.

Nothing under that spot on the plans. Brass Thill was worked to the dunes and under 'Elm Bush', 1898 and 1911. That is the closest on the plans I have. Brass Thill is about 200 feet down as well.

Just coincidence but there is a seam there at the north end of Hadston Carrs. The Yard seams outcrops under the sand about there.

If it is not mining (doesn't seem likely without workings) heaven knows what it is.

I'll leave the youtube title as it is for high drama. I'll change it when they find out what it is!

Of course there could be unrecorded ancient workings along the outcrop of the Yard seam producing some sort of conduit for water?
