New Member
Hi
I've just joined as a new member. I worked for Dowty Meco in Worcester in the 60s and 70s and spent a fair bit of time underground, although mainly in West Mids and Wales. I'm into mining research in a big way, and have a database of over 32000 UK sites, growing daily. |

Hi laskarina, welcome to the forum. We have a number of ex-miners on the site.
Dowty chock at Bates Colliery (looks rather delicate!) this must be some earlier version, New Moor Pit. |

Some nice photos in that set.
Steel planks and timber props mentioned in another thread shown in this one One is lying on the floor next to conveyor/scraper chain so you can see it end on. The men are sitting around the coal cutter, some of the controls are visible, and its steel haulage rope is seen coming towards the camera. 'Kev' - a member on here and myself must be among the youngest in the county to be trained on faces like that - we had no need for fancy Dowty chocks!! just lumps of wood! |
