Default Amble Races

Report of a meeting of Amble Races in the Newcastle Courant of 28 August 1857:
The Tradesman's Plate of 20 sovereigns; a mile and a half;
The Innkeepers' Plate of 8 sovereigns; one mile;
The Beaten Stakes; one mile.
"The day was beautifully fine. A number of tents and stalls were erected on the sands for the sale of refreshments etc. There was a very large concourse of spectators. Mr Marshall, the superintendent from Alnwick , with his staff of county constables, kept excellent order, and everything passed off with the greatest hilarity and good temper."
