Default Beach coal shaft?

What looks to be an old pit shaft has opened up on the beach between Amble and Hauxley. Very close to a well worked coal out crop on the beach.

Yes that area has a line of shafts parallel with the high water mark that worked coal under the dunes. I think it's mentioned in Fowler's memoir.
