Default Hello

Hello everyone, I've eventually managed to get online. I've lived in Amble all my life and keen on running, local history which led to an interest in metal detecting. I usually search Helsay farm and Hauxley and buddle bay. I've found a lot of interesting finds, mainly coins dating back to the 12th century. This looks a really interesting site as this area is usually over looked .
Cheers .

Excellent finds that bring local history to life, very nice. I have a couple of hammered silver from beach detecting within a mile of Amble. Not found any yellow ones unfortunately

Well done, I've never thought of trying the beach. Was that at low tide in the mud ?

They came out of the dunes due to the coastal erosion. There was a full pot of hammered found in a wall at Gloster Hill once, I think Leslie said they are in the Hancock?

I think they are,
Someone from London who valued them sent me a list identifying them all.
There's all sorts lying about more than people realise locally.

Do you have the list or any detail on the exact location of the find? it would make an interesting addition to this site.
BTW I know of a Roman coin found in the fields near there as well, perhaps related to the part altar marked as found on the older maps

I do have the list somewhere , I'll dig it out hopefully and post it on here. Don't know the exact location though. Not sure how right it but I've been told that those Columns are only a few hundred years old ?
Must admit I've never found anything roman around here but I recently had a conversation with someone who found quite a few roman silver coins next to the deserted medieval village at low buston.

The gate posts are Tudor ? someone will know on here, and the I've often wondered what lies under the earth around that deserted village, someone has obviously had the privilege of looking, lucky so and so!!

Fascinating stuff. Perhaps I should make an effort to get out with mine.
Don't think tomorrow is looking like being the optimum day for me to go running about berserk with a detector though.
Anyway, probably best to just let mine gather dust; I'd probably pass out with excitement if I found one of those medieval coins.

Yeah tomorrow looks a tad rough !
Get your detector dusted off , there's plenty to be found after the fields have been ploughed and you might hit the jack pot !
