1840 river crossing.
When reading the “Amble Harbour Village construction started.” I noticed a river crossing on the Admiralty map. Also a photo of the Braid and Gut in the Ambler there appears to be a view of the crossing. Dose anyone have more information on the crossing or knowledge of where on the net information can be found.

There are no photos in existance as far as I am aware of a river crossing there, you are probably looking at an early footbridge down onto the Braid from North st.
The map shows a shortlived tressle bridge used for transporting stone by rail from the quarry next to Cliff House to build the North Pier. This would be before the river was fully dredged and deepened, it went from the area near what is now Spurrelis (the old brick yard) over to the northside. Hope this helps answer your query Last edited by hollydog; 01-12-2016 at 07:03 PM. |
