Not sure who this Edward Kitchen is. No trace of him. There is an Albert Edward Kitchen winning the military medal with the RAMC but he looks like he is from down south and not a local.

Eddie (Edmund) Kitchen was a friend of my Grandfather and I remember being taken to visit him when I was quite young. At the time I think he was a cobbler for the Co-op and lived on Acklington Road, North Broomhill. Some of the other "North-Enders" might remember better than I do.

The 1911 Census shows him living in Togston Terrace with his parents and the 1918 Absent Voters List shows him as "53267 Pte., 57 Fld. Am. R.A.M.C"

Many thanks for that Fraser, I had just checked the East Chevington page of the AVL - and the 'Edward' must have thrown my searches with the rest. I did find him mentioned as a mourner at the funeral of one of the Chrisps of Broomhill in the papers about WW2 time, as "Mr. E. Kitchen."

That must be him - Kitchen and Harbottle have consecutive numbers in the same Field Ambulance. Probably signed up together?? Interesting.
Is this another cousin then?

Adam Ross, also of Wellwood Street had the next number up; 53268. Same unit, killed 1917.
Must have been a bunch of locals that went into the 57th F.A. RAMC at the same time. Must be a story there.

53264 was Joseph Douglas, 61 Wellwood Street, Harbottle's neighbour!
