Default Big guns at Alnmouth. Cobles beware!

"ARTILLERY GUN COMPETITION AT ALNWICK.
The annual big gun competition of the 2nd Northumberland (Percy) Artillery Volunteers, for garrison batteries, took place at the battery at Alnmouth, on Saturday. The competition was with the 64-pounder R.M.L. gun. The conditions being four rounds at a target moored out at sea at a given range, and eight minutes were allowed.
The prizes offered were;--First, £13 10s; second, £9; third, £6 15s; and two prizes of £4 each. Nine detachments competed, the following being the result:.—Warkworth, 1st, 34 points, time, 6min. 30sec.; captain of gun, Sergeant W. Bryson; layer on, Bombardier Davison, Amble, second, 19 points, time, 7min. 30sec.; captain of gun, Sergeant E. Waugh; layer on, Corporal Lyall, Felton, third, 19 points; time, 8min.; captain of gun. Gunner T. Fenwick; layer on, Sergt. R. Richardson, Shilbottle, fourth, 18 points; time, 7min. 15sec-; captain of gun, Sergeant Dyson; layer on, Corporal Henderson, Longhoughton, fifth, 18 points; time, 7min. 30sec, The unsuccessful detachments were Belford, Broomhill bandsmen, Shilbottle Colliery, and Rothbury, Only one detachment (Amble) competed for the repository, and they were awarded the prize."
