Default mr william speirs/spears, broomhill`s oldest in 1931

hi,
came a cross a interesting story about mr william speirs when looking
into another family member, who in todays age would be called
a step-daughter. I have not gone into william`s life, but thought that
this should be here.

mr william spiers 171 north row, south broomhill is 91 and the oldest
inhaditant in broomhill district.
he worked on the shankland railway tunnel, which is a mile long,
and took seven years to built.

he came to broomhill 1865, worked at the colliery till an accident
at the age of 72.
on the 7th august 1875, william, widower was married
to Margaret harbottle, widow of the late william harbottle
who died in march of the same year.

" my guess is that both have young family`s to look after."

william spears died in 1931 and is buried in east chevington cemetery
his wife margaret died in 1890 and is buried in st john`s churchyard.

yours, william.
