Default Military Awards

I don't think we have mentioned this MM before from WW1.

Morpeth Herald, 2 November 1917:

"Private JT Smailes, of the Northumberland Fusiliers, has again received honours for his brave work at the Front. It will be remembered that he won the Military Medal and was honoured by his friends at Radcliffe and Hauxley recently by being presented with a wallet of notes. The latest about this brave lad is that he has received the following letter:- "Your Brigadier has reported that near Arras you repeatedly cleared enemy dugouts and took your Lewis gun into exposed positions to further the advance, and displayed an utter absence of fear in the face of danger, and I hereby award you a Card of Honour."".
