Default Memorial Plaque: Digby Jones VC

The Morpeth Herald of 20 December 1902 carries a report of a dedication service and the erection of a plaque in the church to Lieutenant R J T Digby-Jones VC, aged 23 of the Royal Engineers and of Seabank School, Alnmouth from 1887 to 1890. Killed at Wagon Hill, Ladysmith on 6 January 1900. Mentioned in dispatches on 12 Dec 1899 for his actions at Surprise Hill. His courage on 6 January meant that, to a great measure, Ladysmith did not fall to the Boers. This plaque erected by his school friends.
Another plaque is in St Mary's Cathedral, Edinburgh.
