Dominion Geordies
An interesting project has just hit the internet, conducted by Northumbria University, which is recruiting volunteers via a sort of crowdsource exercise. The purpose is to establish a database of people from the North East who emigrated to the Dominions and then joined up when WW1 broke out. I came across it in the Northumberland and Durham Family History Society magazine but it has apparently appeared in the Journal too.
The website is http://dominiongeordiesinww1.co.uk |

Bizarrely you would have more success, approaching 100% in finding the ex local Dominion men, than our remaining local guys that were wounded and discharged. The SA, NZ, Aus, and Canada service papers have survived so it is do-able. Our own records on the other hand are fragmentary probably to the point of losing forever many, many thousands.
