A view from near the 'little shore' Amble, from a Victorian postcard. Timber section of the south Pier, as in the modern picture above, not yet constructed, just the south breakwater with lighthouse. Lighthouse moved eventually onto a further eastward extension of the south pier (ie where it is now.) That large concrete block that was the base of the lighthouse remained until the recent restoration of the piers. Steps down to sea level pictured are still there but hidden by the timbers of the south pier.

Certainly changed since I lived their in the 40s!!What happened to the little steam crane that was at the end of the pier?
