Default Good News in the Casualty Lists, 1915

Not much to cheer the soul reading the 1915 Casualty lists for our area, but here's some good news for someone. Gazette July 3 1915:

AMBLE TERRIER NOT KILLED BUT WOUNDED.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Liddle, of 7 Cross Row East, Radcliffe, have received information from the Territorial headquarters, York, that their son Private Thomas M. Liddle, who was reported killed in action on May the 31st, is now reported wounded, and admitted to Bevan hospital on June 16th. The news was very gladly received by the parents, and the many friends of a brave lad who had fought for his King and Country.

There will be an interesting story why he got himself reported KIA.

I had a bunch of documents, medals and photos once to a soldier of the Black Watch who was mistakenly reported killed. What happened in his case was that he was shot through both legs at the Battle of Loos. He lay in no man's land for 48 hours, unable to move. By the time they found him the dreaded KIA telegram was on its way.....

He survived the war and lived to a ripe old age and won the pools in the 1950's - bought himself a nice hotel!
