Wonder what the chain is for? It's too small to be much use for anything. For some reason I seem to be getting the feeling it's taken either on the braid along from the yacht club or over on the North Side both options looking roughly toward Warkworth. Could be way out on that front. It just seems like such a strange thing to be there. Still, in the days when film and developing were expensive, they felt it was important enough to take two photos of.

Might throw some light on it or not! That would be great. I've enjoyed looking at the photos so far with a few faces and names I recognise who were probably around my grandparents age. Thank you for adding them.

Added another 3 from their outing - does look like a chain on the balancing Issie picture?

Curiouser and curiouser. There are other cylinder like objects lying around as well.
Could they possibly be to the north on one of the bombing ranges - Goswick sands / Budle bay? You never know!

The chain suggests to me:- It's heavy, and it's being salvaged.
