Sorry, couldn't resist posting this photo from early 80's. It's Mrs Partington the proprietor of harbour guest house with my dad presenting "Miss Amble" with her award. Anyone know who Miss Amble is?

I know you're way too young but I was thinking how far does it goes back? it must be a leftover (for want of a better word) from the modification of the junction and the loss of Togston Square. Could only ever be a small retail premises since then I'm guessing.

Smile re Kanes Cafe

Kanes café was now where Youngs paint shop is now.it was run by Fred Kane and his brother.Fred was married to an Amble lass Jean Embelton and they lived in Acklington Road.tTo say the least they had quite a cross section of customers. From Lady Milburn from Guazance Hall to Geordie Murray from Westfield Estatein Amble who tried to impress other customers by reading the daily newspaper but he usually had it upside down

If it's the same Geordie Murray, he used to live in Marks Row and had a pony and trap. He would do rides in it during Amble Feast.

Didn't the Kane's have a great big dog?

Cains cafe and bakery was at the top of Queens Street. They would make and sell small penny loaves of bread.
There was also Bob Stokoe shop which was in the middle of Queen Street. Also, there was a small sweet shop inside a house up the back lane from the Edwin Street school ?

The back lane of Albert Street/Edwin Street had a sweet shop run from the back kitchen of Mr and Mrs Wilkinson. Their unmarried daughter was also involved. A great big dresser was full of chews and licqourice and loads of yummy stuff that you could get loads of for threepence
