A good friend of my sister was Mary Arries from Amble. They both worked at Hardy's fishing tackle in Alnwick in the 1950s. Would she be related to your dad?

The Red Row Brick Club football team was run by Jack Arries, Jimmy Collier and Archie Freeman. We're apparently talking above 50 years ago It might have been called the Black Watch or perhaps this was a second team.

Margaret all the 2nd World War army records are held centrally in Glasgow, I think. I got my dad's and uncle's records a few years ago for £30 each. They're very informative. I'll look up the reference and get back to you.

That's right .. still are
for information about medals service records etc use
http://www.veterans-uk.info/recordsmedalsbadges.htm

this will lead you to the MOD site for details about applying for your father's service records
https://www.gov.uk/requests-for-pers...ervice-records

Select the form you need and send off with the fee - still £30
State on the form that you want your father complete file - this sometimes brings up additional documents.

The say it can take many months to get the file to you .. do not be put off .. we've had them back in a few months .. and last one applied for on 20 July arrived last week.

TO find out more about the details of your dad's war you could also join
http://ww2talk.com/forums/page/index.html
where there are many also interested in the war and the men and women who served.

I've had a quick look and believe there are several on that forum with a special interest in the Manchesters ...

Firstly they went out as part of the BEF and were evacuated from Dunkirk in 1940.
Do you know when your dad joined and any detail of which unit of the regiment he was with?

Robin
