Default New member Gordon Brown

Hi – I’m Gordon Brown, born on Gordon St in 1958 but grew up elsewhere. The Browns were well known around the harbour area, my Grandparents lived on Ladbroke St.
I have a large number of old photographs and will add an album over the next few months which people may find interesting with many local people identified and named.
........... PHOTO'S IN THE ALBUMS LINK ABOVE...................
My Grandfather was a Plasterer and there are a number of work related pics of the area, his father was a fisherman like many from Amble.
My Grandmother's maiden name was Smailes and a number of her siblings emigrated to Ogema in Canada who I would love to hear from.
Have the family tree on Findmypast and Ancestry with over 2000 people, am busy checking it for accuracy.

I noticed today in an area of my house I'm redecorating, a tiny impressed stamp, in the original plaster, of someone's name. I assume the plasterer?

House in Bede Street built 1886. I'm looking for more impressed names now. House might record a number of 1886 Amble plasterers!

That family tree you've posted in the album, if you email it to me I'll stick it on its own page so it is readable: [removed]

I don't know myself but am pointing some relatives in the direction of this site.
Thanks for adding the link, it did involve a great deal of work by my Aunty Betty.

Hi Gordon, just been browsing your album. Lots of lovely photos. I noticed Norah Morgan on a couple.....one when she was a child in a school shot and one which you have down as a Duke School Reunion? She is second from the right. Norah is still alive and living in Albert Street, her married name is White.

There was no more info on the picture but there are a few shots of Capt Thompson and some post cards from him to my Nana on Ladbroke St so they must have been friends....I always wonder who the person behind the camera was?
Is that the name of the building above the door?

Hi Gordon

Picture 1 in the album is Wooler.
Picture 35 was taken same day as Japnese attack on Pearl Harbour, interesting to think the lads in the photo in Bermuda were just about to get the news that the war was now a world war
Picture 37 doesn't look like Amble, if that helps!

Hi Thanks for your information, Unfortunately the picture numbers change as I add new pictures, but have added Wooler to the one I think you meant.

The John/ Norman Young reference on this one will be Panhaven Road.

yes I see what you mean now, look like the same brothers, one with trilby other with flat cap. The Jack Browns are different generations one father one son.

Hi Gordon, two extensive Brown trees now at the new links below
I got the collywobbles regarding privacy when I saw someone I used to work with & their kids on there so I've put them behind a password!
I've sent you the password so you can give it to anyone you like.

In images 365 and 366 the people in the photo appear to be standing next to a large artillery shell with a chain attached! Does anyone know what it is or where it was taken?

I'm assuming it's not actually a shell.

That's bizarre. It really does look like a 12 inch navy shell. Don't think (if it was a shell) it would have anything to do with the Amble Battery. Too large.
