Default Help required.

I don't know if anyone will be able to help, but we'll give it a try.

I'm trying to find information regarding my great great great grandfather, William Scott. Try as I might, I am unable to find him anywhere. With the information below, if anyone can help, I'd be extremely grateful.

William Scott married Ann Taylor in 1856-57. Ann came from, and worked in Shilbottle. As far as I'm aware, even after marriage, the pair never lived together but had four children: Henry, Thomas, Mathew (I think) and James. William's father was called Thomas and Ann's, Henry.

Thank you.

There's an article in the Alnwick Mercury regarding a case brought to the Petty Sessions on 2 January 1869. William Scott was summoned under Poor Law to answer why he had left his wife Ann destitute. He was working as a day labourer in Harbottle and had separated from Ann 5 years previously. She had ended up in the workhouse and was currently living at Radcliffe, receiving 3s a week, outdoor relief. William was ordered to pay the 3s. He had previously been in front of the magistrates for leaving Ann destitute in the workhouse and said he wouldn't support her. He'd ended up in gaol for a month.
I notice Ann is down as a widow in the 1871 census.

When I read it I didn't know whether to laugh or groan! I'm over the moon with the information, though. Thank you.

Skeletons in the closet are good, they add spice. (Provided there's a hundred year gap between you and them)
