Amble Book
Has anyone heard of a book called "Amble: Names from the Past" by an Eric Sorenson?
Apparently NDFHS has a copy in its library at Percy House, Newcastle. |

"Simonsen" I think it will be, but I've not heard of the book anyway.
I do have his 194 pp book "Warkworth Harbour". He has a few pages in the back of that regarding his efforts to trace/identify the Lighthouse Keepers that have lived on the island, so perhaps that inspired him to do other "Names"? |

Amble Book
Simonsen would make more sense. Ill have to fit in a visit to the NDFHS library to see what his other book is about.

Might be worth checking Amble Library if you're passing that way to see if they have a copy? The reference room has a reasonable selection of local stuff.

Phil, "Amble, the friendliest Port", has a photograph and description of the Penola. Owned by Fountains Trust, set up to help relieve unemployment. Sailed from Ullapool with grain for Wilson's Four Mill at Guyzance.

Penola
The Penola seems to have had an interesting history before it ran between Amble and Ullapool (Isle Martin), as a research yacht in the South Atlantic. This doesn't help you Phil with its career as a training ship. I wonder if there is more info somewhere on the Fountains Trust?
