Final word on Readhead The Newcastle Courant of 25 September 1790 lists bankrupts, one of whom is Robert Readhead of Amble Newhall, Salt Merchant.

great work.

I'll type out Buddle's notes on the colliery and put everything on a page for 'Acklington Colliery'; we can add material on later developments and the more modern colliery as we uncover it.

We've got a start anyway, and I feel a Woodhorn visit coming on.

in that mining institute library last week I was just thinking I would be quite content to live out my days in here.

You do build a sense of 'place' even from the obscure stuff though - next time you drive from North Broomhill to Acklington past the 'Coal Houses' sign I bet you think of the early mining activities, the steam engines and windmills; and Robby Readhead bankrupting himself!
