SS Bondicar
Trying to find out where SS Bondicar was between 5th August 1943 and 7th December 1943. As my late father served aboard her between those dates as a Royal Navy gunner.
If it was in New York harbour at that time it might be the ship my father and the other Royal Naval gunners saved from an exploded incendiary device whilst fully loaded with Aviation Fuel, 500lbs bombs and 2 steam engines strapped to deck and moored out in middle of harbour awaiting next convoy back. |

Hi there, on the 5th Aug 1943 they were at Gravesend heading to Warkworth -
then back and forward same route. I would say 95% of their voyages were Warkworth-Gravesend-Warkworth. don't think they left home waters. the list of voyages is downloadable for free at the National Archives; https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ils/r/D8661611 |

As Coquet states, Bondicarr carried coal and wouldn't ever have been more than a mile or two from the UK coast at that time, certainly not New York!
