I've had a browse of the newspapers and the earliest reference to the Ship Inn is in 1852 when it was being sold as a going concern. Known by the sign of the ship with a stable and three dwelling rooms behind in the yard. In 1860 the innkeeper was a Thomas Copperthwaite and he was selling all his stock in trade. In 1864 the innkeeper was a George Lisle and in 1870 a John Turnbull. That's the last mention I can find. Whellan's 1855 trade directory has the innkeeper as a Robert Carse.

The ordnance maps on the Northumberland Communities website mark the Inn in 1860 (First Edition) but it has disappeared by 1897 (Second Edition).
