Robert did indeed live down there, Swarland House isn't on the 1920 map shown but there is a structure in the general vicinity of the wooden house the Beales lived in. There is also a building in the region of the Gents WC mentioned earlier which appears to large for the Gents WC. They could be linked to The Radcliffe Arms as suggested.
I wonder if those properties had cellars? The census has lots of people living there 1881 / 91. The properties in North View seem to have large allotments on what became Campbell Smiths. His workshop building which was at the junction of North St / North View opposite Salvation Army hut and the footpath down to the Gut was a much newer structure and isn't shown but there is a building closer to the Gut in front of North View. Any idea what this is? As I remember the only way across the Gut before the new bridge was the stepping stones to the rear of Smiths Garage. |

That 'T' shaped building in 'parcel' (field) 23. Must be industrial? It is quite some size.

I've checked the 1896 map and that T shaped building in parcel 23 is not there so construction must have taken place between then and 1920s with some leeway for surveying production and map printing. Someone must know!
