Here's another reference to early biplanes in the district

Alnwick and County Gazette 8 August 1914

BROOMHILL.

Army Biplane at Broomhill.

An Army biplane passed over Broomhill on Wednesday afternoon. When nearing North Broomhill, its course seemed to have been changed, and a few minutes afterwards it descended in a field near Togston Crescent, locally known as the second field up the “Wicket Ways.” The biplane was in charge of Captain Rudwell and a mechanic. They had been obliged to descend owing to some difficulty with the engine. They expected to have the difficulty remedied in a short time but up to mid-day on Thursday a restart had not been made.
