I was wondering how his clothing survived considering the reference to the body. The word 'dress' is my best guess as it's difficult to read so perhaps it's something else?

Anyway, the burial date is Aug 19 1818. Poor fellow.
There must be a fundamental law about the survival of clothing. I came across an article in the Morpeth Herald in 1894. An inquest held at Helsay Farm on a body washed up half a mile north of the harbour (found by my gt grandfather's brother!) The body was very much decomposed but the clothes were in good order. The body seemed to have been in the water about 3 weeks.
