when I worked at Whittle come winter the coal froze in the loco wagons be for going into the screens , there was plenty of overtime on the freeing the coal , a line of burning coal along the line...

can anyone tell me where the water pumped out of whittle colliery when it was working . there was no lagoons that I know of . T here was no pit heaps, there was a little bit near the road lorry...

if you look at photo a brick building in front of craine can't remember this but in front of that is the n.u.m offices , I never worked on the coal face.

the building ? at newton colliery I remember seeing was circle shaped , made of brick with what looked like a manhole on top. wonder if this was a capped shaft ?.

coquet you have recent photos of whittle drift , for pumping do they use the pipe that go's out the drift roof ?. i was one of the men that instoled the pipe from outbye of shilbottle up the supply...
