Opened in 1902 with a 1000 year lease. It didn't last a 100 years and the temperance side of it seemed to be forgotten very quickly with drunkenness, fights and serving after time reported soon after...

My grandfather Tom Edwards worked at the pit there, later lived at South Broomhill then Hadston. Deputy at North Broomhill I think

Bus crash on the bridge 1939. Percy Hunt 1928 and an old postcard I found at a car boot. I remember going over the bridge in my dads car, first to the middle had right of way I think

Thank you Coquet, Yes there was a T Mackenzie repatriated in November 1943 presumed wounded. There is also a resemblance to him in a photo previously posted on here, Tuck Mackenzie down Broomhill...

I`m sure I remember seeing the wheel in situ in the 1960s. It was recovered from there in 1994 and it is now at Pathead Mill Blaydon thanks to the Duke of Northunberland who I believe never wanted...
