Well ive read there was no activity around felton area although there was a rumour of a roman settlement near eshott, but not confirmed, well i found this last week and is confirmed as a Roman quadron trade weight,so i might just clear this rumour up in the following months.

Impressive find Jim. The Roman numerals are IV do you reckon, to make it a quadran?

If it is a scheduled site of archaeological interest , the Farmer should be able to tell you, if hes not sure ask if there is any restrictions on use , IE pasture only, not allowed to plough etc !

I see that there is a throw away comment about a Roman settlement in the area, in the Eshott newsletter, but it is very vague.....looks like you might be throwing up more evidence :)

well the rolled up curse tablet is defo roman tradition, i unrolled it to read the inscription last weekend, then found a dead starling in my garden sunday morning, and came down with flu monday and had 2 days off work, coincidence. also the pot mends are roman broad period too, just need to find the coins to confirm everything, hopefully later in the year when im off the pasture

Sounds like we'd better start praying for you then jim :D

quite common finds from that era, usually if somebody owed you money, or you held a grudge, you inscribed the curse onto a strip of lead, rolled it 3 times and threw it into a pond, shrine etc, i found this near the pre roman tumulus

Nice to have something the locals were using 3000 years ago. A bit older than my ginger beer bottles. :)
