Prisoner of War

The Morpeth Herald of 7 May 1920 reported a sad case:

"The death has taken place at his home at Radcliffe Colliery of Mr Ralph Scott after a few days illness. Mr Scott enlisted in 1914 and was taken prisoner by the Germans in 1916. He suffered terrible hardships at the various camps in the hands of the Huns, and after two years in Germany the armistice came, which brought his liberation. Much sympathy is felt for his wife and their children, whom he has left behind to mourn his loss."

The absent voters list has him as 23rd Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers which was the 4th Tyneside Scottish. Medal card shows enlisted May 1914 with 7th so changed battalions at some point. He didn't go overseas with the original 7th but went sometime after 1/1/1916.
