1921 Miners' Strike

Having taken advantage of the cheap offer on the 1921 census there was one unexpected result.
1921 saw the national miners strike when pits returned to private ownership after the War. I believe it started 1 March and lasted for three months. One of my grandfathers and an uncle both worked at Broomhill and the entry on the census, written by my grandfather states his occupation but underneath for both himself and his eldest son he has put "out of work, on strike". He was a trade union activist. Whoever checked the returns had kindly crossed it out! My other grandfather was employed at Newburgh and his entry states "out of work."
My nephew who has a grandfather and great grandfather working in the Yorkshire pits has identified that they are also on strike.
