Was looking at this Edwardian (or earlier) card the other day. Looks lke a painting but I believe these are modified photos turned almost in to paintings by heavily adding colour and lines until there's nothing left of the original photo.

Are coal fires a thing of the past?

Not for me, had ours on yesterday (although just recently re-opened after being out of use for decades!) and noted something, a flashback 30 years to when my grandmother was alive, something I'd never thought of in all that time.

I was suprised when I first saw this one.... when was there a large chimney on Amble Pier?? until I realised it's the old dredger entering or leaving the harbour!

What a fantastic postcard, Coquet. I think you're right, it probably is a painted photograph. And what about the quarry wall off to the right with what looks like a vehicle on it!
I think the group of men are bagging up coal. There are a couple of workers to the right with rough trousers and flat caps with a bag. The chap to the left is suited with a bowler on....obviously the chief.
