Hi William, it looks like she was the wife of James Harbottle, an agricultural labourer. She was born in Littlehoughton. He had certainly remarried by the 1881 census. She probably died in child birth as James has a son, George, registered in the same quarter that Mary died.

Well, evidence can be misinterpreted :o I've just had a look at the newspaper archive and there is an entry in the Alnwick Mercury of 7 June 1879:
"At Amble, on the 5th inst., aged 24 yrs, Mary, the beloved wife of Mark Harbottle, and daughter of Mr E and J Nairn."

Her parents are Ebeneezer and Isabella Nairn. He was a mason and in 1851 was living in Amble. Buried in the east cemetery, surname "Nirn".

mary harbottle, amble cemetery

hello janwhin,
thats great, i was not sure who she was. with her birth year
1855 made me think that she was mary nairn. now can fill
in the space`s.

having seen the age and where the other mary was buired
with young children, i guess she was james first wife. ten years
between 1871/81, a lot can happen.

the child george 1879, i have james as the father, 1881
census. going from agg/lab to coal miner i thought he was
another family, but went on the names of his children as a
good bet.

many thanks again.

regards, william.

William,
There was also an entry for the birth of George in the newspapers being the son of James.
I think the wife of James was either Mary Rutherford or Mary Kinnear born Littlehoughton in about 1848/49. By 1881 he was married to Alice.

I believe Mark Harbottle, married to Mary Nairn, was of the same family as James and Robert (also in the East Cemetery) and born in the Kirknewton area.

William, There are quite a lot of family trees on Ancestry for the Harbottles. One of them has Mark Harbottle in Auckland, New Zealand.....even a photograph :)

harbottle

hi janwhin,
yes i saw that photo of mark and louisa. i was stuck on mark for
a while, seen a marriage for mary nairn but they where gone from
the census. at one time was going after mark from durham 1881
married to a mary.

then there was the list with a mary harbottle buired amble
cemetery, the birth year was right. had to be mary nairn.
but had to ask for help, when i saw a child buired in
chevington churchyard called, elizabeth louisa harbottle.
date buired 1888. she could still be marks child from 2nd wife?

having you find the obituary in the paper, it all fitted in.
am going to check up on the new zealand mark, his
birth year is about right.

many thanks to you and the kind people who puts all bmd
on the forum for us. it makes it easy for other`s. cheer`s!

regards, william.
