Hi there,
Your dad's shop wouldn't have had records through the back would it? I used to buy 45s there and my sisters 78s!

I remember the shop well, World famous in Amble!

stfr1961 02-02-2013 07:43 AM

ha ha, pleased to hear "Freeds Fashions" was so famous!

My dad only ever sold clothing and the shops either side were Bobby Purvis the newsagent and Young's painting and decorating so I'm not sure where you bought records janwhin?

it was definitely there, maybe it was the shop's predecessor. We needed to walk through the clothes and into a back area where all the records were. When did your dad take it on? Somebody will know!

my dad took this shop on in 1961 - we lived in the flat upstairs at no.12 Queen St to begin with. Rented the shop from Roland the butchers a few doors down.
