Alex Fowler's Geology Memoir

I've been working on a transcription of this important addition to the site. Today, near the end, I've lost several hours work with a plug in hard drive malfunction. Boy does that make you want to give up.

Here it is anyway, some of the bits now outstanding (again) are the bore hole logs and appendices at the end.

Still, the main body of the text is up. Lots of interesting stuff in there if you can get past the lists of fossils and strata.

West Chevington Farm was plagued with the 'wobbles' during distant quarrying operations in the Causey Park Dyke. The dyke runs right under the farm apparently. :D

This is by the Alexander Fowler we have already discussed?

Nice work. Interesting bit about the coal workings on the beach during the 1926 strike.

Some very detailed, well researched info in this paper, it seems to have been done after the second World War.

1935/6 I think. Unusually the book is not dated; but the preface is dated: 1935.

He mentions on a number of occasions 'the present state of the mining industry', in the sense of areas or seams not worth working. Depression era effect?

I assume the war turned things around sharpish. Even Acklington Aerodrome gave up some land for open-casting during the war.
