Mysterious death
 

Hi All, was wondering if anyone can help me find an inquest/info into the death of William Smales (Smailes), found hung in an outhouse at Warkworth on 1st June 1838. Not registered until 28th June so I imagine there was an investigation, although he seems to have been buried on 5th June.
A very helpful lady at Woodhorn had a look for an inquest but said they don’t go back that far, so I imagine the only records could be in newspapers but I have drawn a blank.

Gordon, there's a mention in the Northern Liberator of 9 June 1838:

"On Sunday the body of Wm Smailes, of Warkworth, carrier, aged about 50 years, was found hanging in an out house, near that town. He had been missing since the Wednesday evening preceding and had committed the fatal act while labouring under temporary insanity."

wonder if anyone can help us with this record, I have info that there was a newspaper article :-

The Newcastle Courant Feb. 20th 1812.

Mr. William Smailes sen. On his return from Alnwick market was thrown from his horse and killed on the spot.

Coroners verdict accidental death.

The Newcastle Courant records are missing from 'Newspaper Archives' for this date and was wondering if there may be another source of this record or a record of the death in any other local papers as I have drawn a blank.
