Good afternoon, I joined your forum as I see you have information on my great grandfather Joseph Forster from Alnwick, recorded as wounded in 1916. He died in September 1916 as a prisoner of war leaving behind a wife and three daughters. I see you have a note of a letter from him recording his injuries on the Somme. I have lent some information and photos to Alnwick Castle for their exhibition as he worked there. Can you tell me where you got the information on his letter sent home from the Somme from, I thought I had all the family information and it would be good to know, thank you.

You will note that each of the entries for the wounded and killed of WWI has a date. This is the reference to the Alnwick Gazette edition in which the account was published.
A family member must have passed the letter to the Gazette journalist in 1916. Such letters often appeared in local newspapers.
I guess the original must have been lost within the family, if it is not in your possession.

if it's the Great War period you are after then you need to visit Morpeth or Alnwick library, (Northumberland) the newspapers are on micro film, or at Morpeth Library original bound volumes are also available.

Best to call first of course to ensure the period you are interested in is available.
