Brilliant photos from the Youngs....that's quite a collection. I started at school in Alnwick in 1961 and we used to rattle across that old bridge in Craiggs' bus. The number of times when cyclists/pedestrians had to dive into those abutments, would they be. There was also plenty of reversing when something as big as the bus was coming the other way....back through the tower :)

My dad started learning to be a driver of the school bus, as it would have fitted in well with the Radcliffe Club stewarding hours. However, he gave up after a frightening 'introduction to the stone work' of that old bridge. It was a while before he told us why he dropped the idea. Looking back,it would have been very embarrassing if my school friends had been on board at the time!
