St. John's Church at Chevington
 

Went to St. John's Church at Chevington today, Gravestones have been placed around the churchyard wall and about 80% are overgrown with brambles, ivy and weeds, so no monumental inscriptions to be transcribed there until someone has a go at it with a brushcutter first :):

Health and Safety
 

I visit the church now and again, and have attended it several times for funerals and weddings. I also played the bugle in the Army cadet band at the war memorial several times,after marching from Chevington Drift. Its sad to see the headstones hidden from view behind the unkempt bushes. A sign of the health and safety I'm afraid.

exactly what it is, most in Amble east cemetery have been deliberately pushed over for that reason.

the ground is so soft (mainly sand) the stones are now sinking and disappearing
