Their parents are 'certificated' schoolmaster and schoolmistress living in Warkworth on the 1891 census.

....and another brother, Hubert Alfred Briggs served in the Ox and Bucks Light Infantry, later discharged to a commission in the Labour Corps. Survived the war.

[possibly not an accident that he went to a unit with higher survival rate, as these three Warkworth born boys were the only children of Alfred and Sarah!]

The parents appear to have retired by the 1901 census, but the 1911 one sees them back in business, Alfred as a head teacher, Sarah as an assistant teacher for Bedford County Council. They are living at this time in the 'The School House', Colmworth, St Neots, Bedfordshire.
