The Castle

I have been visiting the castle since I was about 10 years old and in fact three of us used to help the caretaker mow the grass on the motorised mower(no elf and safety in the 1940s!!).On my last visit I asked the English Heritage lady why they could not put a roof on the keep and glass in the windows and have some lighting put in,perhaps it could be used for wedding ceremonys as well as its such a beautiful setting with much Northumbrian history attached to it.Reply was no,it would be too expensive and there are too many Health and safety issues!!!End of thay conversation!!What do forumites think?Good idea or not?

Brilliant idea, but the cost would be phenomenal, but they might even be able to put aside an area for a local history museum! (The Great Hall would do nicely)
Anyway, it would solve the pigeon problem and halt weathering on the internal stonework at least.

Roof

if English Heritage run the castle and take monies ,where does the money go?Also I guess it must be a listed building or are Eng H exempt?Either way with todays materials it should not be to difficult to place a structure of some kind as a roof to keep the interior dry.Methinks if it was in ....say London then money would be no object!Ask any tourist if they know of Warkworth and see the reply you get!!Or Bamburgh or Alnwick....oh yes Harry Potter was filmed there!!!!

Here's some snaps from the summer of some actors in the castle grounds. Medieval Crime and Punishment was one of the themes, which the kids loved (naturally) :D

Question, are English heritage exempt from the laws on listed buildings?Maybe there should be a petition to get it (The keep that is)roofed before any further damage to the structure takes place.Health and safety issues were quoted to me when I asked the lady on the gate!Theres already lighting in the dark areas where before there where none so I guess the minimum has been done to comply .Any more comments on this?!!
