My guess is top of The Wynd looking South East at Gibson Street. The small window is still there and the step in the roofline can be seen in this image too. There's not many 'L' shaped streets in Amble I can think of.

No Jan it's down the Braid hill where the Salvation Army place was, buildings in the background are still there. A lot of the carters and hawkers had stablng in that area, even in my time Bob Barclay had stables where the bungalow is now. Charlton the milk people later had lock up garages there.

That's over the back of Queen Street then Alan? The cobblers was down there too I think. Was the cut grass off the Braid?

My sisters are the ones with the main memories of the Sally Army hut :)

Spot on as ever Alan! You can just about see it on street view and it matches perfectly.

Its Cross St, North St on way down to Braid. As you say where the Sally army hut was. I didn't think there would be hay fields then on the Braid, it was the town refuse tip down that lane to the Gut !!

There was a field, in what became Mrs Campbell Smiths garden area, which was known as "Beachams Field" and horses were grazed there until the late 50's early 60's. This is part of the land which was to become the Tesco Supermarket.

Jim and John Ord it is then. (from Broomhill? or Amble boys and the bride from Broomhill?) With their Father and other brothers it looks like, plus an uncle and his son seated left I'd bet?

I'm hoping Janwhin will be on this like a ferret up a pipe.

Just had a dig in the census. A few Ords but it's a hard one. if we had a marriage date.. but alas.

I will be....Jack Ord married my dad's aunt :D I will return.

Funnily enough I have a Christoper Ord 1833, married to Alice Waters 1824-03 of Warkworth - I'll dig a bit deeper...

Well, Jack Ord was married in 1905 when he was 22. That would match the note on the back. I can see one cross on the photo but not the other. Any idea Coquet?

Only one cross. Ambiguous isn't it. I would say the first mentioned, John, would be the one getting married and the one marked with a cross, with the distinguishing cravat. The chap next to him Jim/James? We can eliminate the younger two (seated and with arm on shoulder of father- look like 14 & 16ish) as being Jim, leaving only one other possibility for Jim as the other chap seated on the right?

Had a browse through that ebay sellers other stuff to see if they had anything else for this family. Only thing possibly connected is this one:

and.... did we have a photographer 'D.M. Smith' in Amble in the 60s??

The other cross is on the right arm (looking at him.... his left) of the guy sat on the right of the picture. I'd say he was Jack, as he looks older than the other guy with a cross
