Default New Member - Jim Straker

Hello All,
As you can see I haven't used a pseudonym.
I was born and brought up in Amble but haven't lived there since 1973.
My parents (both in their eighties) still live in Wellwood Street. My father is the last survivor of the eleven children of Charles Robert Straker MM.
This is a brilliant forum, by the way.

Welcome to the Forum, Jim.
I hope you've come across the posts relating to your grandfather.

Default Welcome Messages

Thanks to all who welcomed me to the forum.
Although I find the whole forum fascinating, my particular interest is in my grandfather, C R Straker MM. I have read his thread and will add to it in due course. I will also add something to the thread concerning The Wynd - it seems I have a half-cousin called Maggie who I didn't know anything about!

Hi Jim

Yes, my grandfather was William Straker, your dad's brother!!! Welcome cousin. If you have any information on the Wynd I would love to hear it. We still have loads of cousins living in and around Amble. You must have left the year I went to Alnwick college. Good to hear from you.

Maggie

Thanks Maggie,

It was my grandfather who was your grandfathers brother. I'm old but not that old.
Are you researching on Ancestry? I think I may have had "hints" from your tree.
Was Alwyn your dad?
My parents are still living in Wellwood Street

Best wishes

Red face

Hi Jim

Sorry it's taken me a while to respond but I forgot my password!!! No Alwyn wasn't my dad - Anne (Nancy) Straker was my mum, the daughter of William Straker. Alwyn was mum's cousin. Good to find some more family - although the Straker clan is fairly large and getting bigger by the day. I have been doing the family tree on Ancestry, also use the Mormon data base which is brilliant.

Maggie
