Default The Friary - previously a nightclub ?

I was recently told that prior to being occupied by the Franciscan Brothers in the early 60s , the Friary building was an upmarket night club and restaurant , attracting the well to do from as far as Newcastle and Edinburgh . Having known it as a place of Christian retreat all my life , I was struck by the incongruity . Can anyone shed any light on this ?

It was indeed a club of some sort called "Lint Close". Before that it was the house of a local "well to do" who financed the building of the Alnmouth Boys Club. During WW2 it was taken over as the officers mess and a rehabilitation centre.
