Default The School Photo

How old are these kids then? Once we guess that I can estimate the year! Dovecote Street I believe.

I feel quite faint now.

It could be Morph, that name is very familiar now you mention it, I just can't say for certain. [This is about 1969]

She taught me in the late 70's. I just looked at a class photo from 1979 and I can't tell if it's her or not. Glasses look similar but that's about it. She looks lots older in 1979. Could be the stress of teaching in Amble!

Yes, it is Mrs Dalby. Her mother was Mrs Bowey, lived next door to us on Lindisfarne Road.

I thought you might know. well done.

I was just thing back...to the playground in that school..... when to coal trains pulled up next to the school, if it was play time and we were in the yard, the kids would stop what they were doing and shout, all together.. 'POMP YOUR HORN!.. POMP YOUR HORN!..POMP YOUR HORN!....over and over...and the drivers always did, once we had gone a bit blue in the face with the effort!

I think the teacher could be Mrs Doreen Younger, she lived in Bisley Road. Now lives in Alnwick. Her husband taught at Secondary Modern "Big George"

Good stuff, filled in a few gaps.

Now that name rings an even louder bell, is that her?

I remember Big George's slipper. It was infamous. He used to casually bring it out of the drawer and place it on his desk when we got a bit unruly. We sharp quietened down.

Thanks for posting this I was drawn to look at it again today as there's folks there that I haven't seen or thought about in over 40yrs! I was good friends with Nicholas Gibbison at primary school and spent many a happy day at The Schooner Inn where his dad was the publican.......

Yes I remember Nicholas well. We used to go backpacking across the Cheviot hills together. We would disappear up there for days. Don't think you can do that now.

Hadn't ever seen this before! Looks suspiciously like me two rows in front of the teaching staff! Stephanie Fairbridge at very front of photo on the right isn't it?

Well I never. I thought it looked like me but thought I would not have forgotten that. Plus that kid looked like he had a rather cocky disposition, not my retiring one. (so things went wrong after this photo!)
