I've come across by accident, a lovely little family research treasure, the Record of Admissions to the Duke School in Alnwick, published on its centenary in 1911 and listing pupils back to 1811, by year. It also has biographies for those former pupils who have submitted information. As an example:
Thomas Lamb, admitted 1899, left 1903; date of birth, 9 March 1888. Son of
James W Lamb of Warkworth. Preliminary and Junior Cambridge Locals; 1st Class South Kensington Advanced Freehand Drawing; Cricket XI; Football XI.
Apprenticed to Marley and Russell, Newcastle upon Tyne; Chemists' Preliminary 1906; Qualified Chemist, 1909; Residence: Brewery, Warkworth.
Thomas' two brothers also have bios and I've noticed, among others, Alfred Green, Plumber, Amble; Adam Pringle Scott, Manager of North Eastern Bank, Amble; John Wallace Horne, Sun Hotel, Warkworth.
I got a bit depressed towards 1911, wondering how many survived the War.
