Drowning at the Braid
Newcastle Journal, 4 June 1914:
"A mysterious drowning case is reported from Amble.
James Pringle, a miner, left his home at ten minutes to nine on Tuesday morning, and at 9.30 on the same morning his body was found floating in the River Coquet, near t the Braid Point, at Amble.
His wife, Esther Pringle, told Mr H. J. Percy, the Coroner, at an inquest yesterday, that her husband was in his usual good health and spirits when he went out, and he had no money or domestic troubles., and they led a happy life together.
The Coroner said it was one of the most mysterious cases in his experience for a man, without a care or troubles of any kind and in perfect health, to go out of his house and a few minutes later to be found floating in the water dead.
A verdict of "Found drowned" was returned."
